Young Performers Prepare to Entertain Audiences with Sci-Fi Rock Musical

 

SANTA CLARA, CA—February 8, 2012– Today, Starting Arts Dream Team II (www.startingarts.com) announces their first mainstage production to open this month, Starmites. This sci-fi rock musical will feature the theatrical and musical talents of Starting Art’s newest performance company which is comprised of 29professionally trained local youth, ages 9 through 13.

 

Starmites runs February 24-26 at Santa Clara High School Performing Arts Theatre, 3000Benton Street in Santa Clara. Starmites is the story of Eleanor, a teenage girl who falls into a comic book world and discovers her destiny. Along her journey, she meets the Starmites, a group of wise-cracking superheroes, and the Banshees, scary Amazon women who protect the world’s most fearsome weapon. This high-energy adventure fantasy where humans and heroes conquer the sinister inhabitants of inner-space and discover love, loyalty, inner-strength is appropriate for audiences of all ages. Nominated for six Tony Awards, the musical is driven by the eclectic pop-rock score by Barry Keating and book by Stuart Ross and Keating.

 

Dream Team II has been assembled since August 2011. The select group of young artists receives weekly expert training in music (vocal), dance and theater, and monthly workshops with arts professionals. Specialized workshops are designed to develop a variety of skills including auditioning, performance technique, stage combat, and stage management. The team also participates in various community performances in the Bay Area.
