Director of Development
For 27 years, Aaron sang as a professional award-winning opera baritone in many of the greatest houses in North America. Under the baton of Domingo, Levine and current Metropolitan Opera Director Jannick Nezet-Seguin, Nicholson performed at the Metropolitan Opera, NY City Opera, Montreal Opera, and Florida Grand Opera performing over 100 leading operatic roles.
In 1998, Nicholson founded the Tri-Cities Youth Musical Theatre Workshop where he served as Artistic Director for 11 years. This program provided training to thousands of 12-18 year old young artists in the Broome County Area and beyond. The company moved to Binghamton University and the newly named BU Music Theatre, where it expanded its footprint to include young artists from all over the Northeast United States.
In 2012, Mr. Nicholson became the General Director of Opera Coeur d’Alene, now Inland Northwest Opera, where he produced and directed several major operatic productions including Faust, Carmen, La Boheme, Fanciulla del Ouest, Rigoletto, The Barber of Seville, Pirates of Penzance, Die Fledermaus and The Magic Flute. With Nicholson at the helm, Opera CDA was recognized as one of ten up and coming regional opera companies. After his tenure at Opera CDA, Nicholson took the post of Development and Marketing Director at Opera San Jose where he worked under Larry Hancock. Now as Development Director for Starting Arts, Aaron proudly puts his development skills to use supporting arts education in the south bay and beyond.
