Starting Arts will be offering Student Oriented Assembly Programs (SOAP) for students in grade K-12 for the 2017-2018 school year. These interactive music assemblies, with renowned local artists, allow children of all ages to experience a new music genre and provide a fun and educational environment to improve their cultural literacy. All assemblies will end with a Q & A. Total running time is 50 minutes.

Opera Assembly: Performed by Michael Taylor and Company

We are offering 2 operas this year: The Barber of Seville and Cinderella. These adapted student-friendly versions consist of 4 professional opera singers and 1 pianist. We incorporate between 8 to 12 students on stage to be part of the ensemble or chorus with lines and singing opportunities. Students will need to rehearse with the professionals one hour before showtime; Cinderella will require additional rehearsal time. All sets, costumes, and props are provided.

*Thanks to the generosity of the Shortino Foundation and the San Jose Opera Guild, there will be special rates for Title 1 schools interested in Cinderella.

Techno-Magic Assembly: Performed by Kris Grant

This dynamic assembly combines music and technology. Students are introduced to the creative, playful, and dynamic synthesizer. By providing the sounds that will eventually make up a piece of music, they miraculously become music composers.

String Serenade Assembly: Performers TBD

Through the generosity of the Steinway Society of the Bay Area and Stanford University, an introductory chamber music concerts highlighting piano, cello, and piano, or string quartet, can be provided to schools.
