Luisa Sermol is excited to join the Starting Arts team as she has experienced theatre to be a vital and beautiful part of a child’s educational life! A graduate of the Juilliard School, she also holds a Masters in Teaching (Lewis and Clark College-Rodgers Scholar), a BA in English Literature (Portland State University, a Single Subject in English certification for California as well as an LA and Drama certification for Oregon. She is a member of Actors’ Equity Association, Screen Actors’ Guild and is a private acting coach. Over the years, her teaching and guest artist workshop experience includes Portland Actors’ Conservatory, Portland Shakespeare Project, Portland Community College, Lewis and Clark College, Reed College, University of Washington, University of California, Santa Cruz, Foothill College, SIETAR (Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research), Rosemont Adolescent Treatment Facility, Open Meadow School, Multnomah County Juvenile Court System, The Oregon Symphony, The Yakima Symphony and many theatre outreach programs. She spent the last 14 years as a public school teacher in Portland, enjoying teaching Language Arts as well as Drama and directing over 30 shows. Her acting credits include Broadway, Off-Broadway, Williamstown, Portland Center Stage, Artists Repertory Theater, many Portland theatres, and is honored to be a 5-time award winner of Portland’s Outstanding Actress. Recent work in the Bay Area includes “The Siegel” for City Lights, “They Promised Her the Moon” for Theatreworks New Work Festival, and currently “Noises Off” for Hillbarn Theatre. Film/television work includes Leverage, Personals, Zero Effect, Grimm and the award winning animated short, Insect Poetry.
New to the Bay Area, Luisa looks forward to sharing her passion for the theatre with the Starting Arts community and getting to explore the beauty of California!
