Brief info

Janelle Downey fell in love with theatre when she played Juliet in her 5th grade class production of Romeo and Juliet. After attending Santa Susana Magnet High School for the Performing arts and Technology in Southern California, she went on to graduate from Chapman University with a Bachelor’s in Theatre and Dance Performance. After college, Janelle did some traveling and was able to experience theatre and dance in different countries which opened her eyes even further to the power of theatre.

Janelle has been the wearer of many hats in theatrical production: working behind the scenes, teaching Shakespeare to Chinese foreign exchange students, directing, producing, and working as an administrator for Cabrillo Music Theatre in Thousand Oaks California. No matter what she is doing, she is happy to be sharing her love of theatre.

Janelle is thrilled to be working with Starting Arts to bring theatre into Bay Area schools. She believes that arts education is an amazing way to to engage with children and give them skills to aid them in many aspects of their education and life.
