Summer Camps

We are excited to launch our new Online Summer Camp options! These camps are made to provide families with flexible creative resources over the summer. If you have any questions about Starting Arts Summer Camps, please email michelle@startingarts.com.

In addition to the camps listed below, we will also be offering online small-group summer workshops. The information and enrollment for these 2-hour intensives will be found HERE

Camps with a Live Online Component

Live Camps

These camps have a live AND pre-recorded component for 4 weeks with a specific start and end date. Each week will have a 1-hour live online class plus a 30-minute pre-recorded class to watch at your convenience before the next live class and supplemental material. These camps culminate in a virtual performance!

Old Fashioned Radio Play
June 15-July 6, 2020

Instructor: Janelle Downey
Suggested Ages: 10-18 years old
Live Online Class Meetings: Mondays, 2pm-3pm

In the days before there was a TV in every living room, families would gather around the radio to listen to dramas, comedies, and other entertainment broadcasts. Here is our chance to create our own!  We will rehearse and record a radio play, learning proper vocal techniques, and creating characters with just our voices. We’ll even be creating some Foley (hand made sound effects).

Summer Songbirds
June 15-July 6, 2020

Instructor: Ashlee Vivo
Suggested Ages: 9-14 years old
Live Online Class Meetings: Mondays, 10am-11am

This virtual summer choir will give students not only amazing vocal direction from Miss Ashlee, but also a fun and creative group dynamic. Students will be learning a cappella numbers which will be compiled into two videos/mp3’s for you to keep! You will be given a part to sing in each song and taught how to memorize your part/ harmony.

Puppet Magic: Creation & Stories
June 25-July 16, 2020

Instructor: Adrienne Marquette
Suggested Ages: 5-9 years old
Live Online Class Meetings: Thursdays, 2pm-3pm

Join Miss Adrienne for a creative journey through puppet making and storytelling! Students will be creating 3 puppet characters each and using those characters to re-tell a musical version of Aesop’s Fables. This camp comes with a puppet-making kit (with a touchless pick-up day in June- Date/Time TBD). This camp will take your child’s creativity and love of performing to another level!

Yes, and: Improv
July 8-July 29, 2020

Instructor: Alicia Sanders and Lara Aziz Alder
Suggested Ages: 10-18 years old
Live Online Class Meetings: Wednesdays, 1pm-2pm

Veteran instructors, Alicia and Lara, will provide students with the building blocks to create great improvised performances! They will make sure campers understand the basics of Improv and build scenes virtually. The ability to improvise is a skill that all performers should have in their back pocket…don’t miss this important camp!

Directing 101
July 13-August 3, 2020

Instructor: Janelle Downey
Suggested Ages: 13-18 years old
Live Online Class Meetings: Mondays, 2pm-3pm

A camp for advanced theatre students to explore the process of directing a show. We will cover script analysis such as breaking down a scene into beats, objectives, and obstacles as well as different directing communication styles.  We will also be working on basic set, costume, and blocking concepts.  We will then be directing each other in short scenes to be filmed at the end of the camp.

Wake Up and Sing with Miss Diana
July 9-July 30, 2020

Instructor: Diana Torres-Koss
Suggested Ages: 5-9 years old
Live Online Class Meetings: Thursdays, 10am-11am

This choir for our younger campers will fill your house with the songs of summer! From classic camp fire songs to current radio hits, Miss Diana and her signature flare will have your kids singing their hearts out this summer! The joy will be contagious.

Pre-Recorded Camps

Pre-recorded camps can be purchased at any time and watched at your convenience as many times as you'd like until August 31st. Each camp includes five 30-minute videos plus supplemental materials. Buy a 3-pack or 5-pack of camps for a discounted rate per camp and have something fun and creative for everyone in your household! If you register before June 15th, your camp's website(s) will be emailed to you on June 15th. After June 15th, your camp's website(s) will be emailed to you within 1 business day of when you register.

Ukulele (Beginning)

Instructor: Ashlee Vivo

A great introductory lesson in ukulele, this camp is perfect for anyone ready to learn the basics and has 0-1 year of experience playing ukulele. If you do not have access to a ukulele, you can borrow one from Starting Arts (email Michelle@startingarts.com to schedule a safe, touch-less pick up of the instrument).

Ukulele (Intermediate)

Instructor: Ashlee Vivo

Take your ukulele playing to the next level, this camp is perfect for anyone ready to 1-2 years experience playing ukulele. If you do not have access to a ukulele, you can borrow one from Starting Arts (email Michelle@startingarts.com to schedule a safe, touch-less pick up of the instrument).

Theatrical Make-Up

Instructor: Amanda Cullen

In this Theatrical Makeup course students will learn different makeup techniques that are featured on stage, and can even be taken off the stage! Students will learn how to enhance their features for the stage to account for the bright stage lights, and will learn more artistic techniques like old age makeup, SFX makeup such as scars and bruises, and dramatic glamorous makeup. Students will also learn the history of theatrical makeup along the way, and why it’s so important to the design of a theatre performance. A great course for middle and high school-age performers!

Dance Vibes

Instructors: Vary

If you are a fan of our annual Dance Intensive, this camp is for you! 5 lessons, each a different style of dance, with a mix of incredible instructors. Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop, and more…move the furniture and get ready for a challenging and fun camp that will have you constantly moving in and out of your dance comfort zone!

Iconic Choreography

Instructor: Katelin Foley

You’ve seen the moves before, now you can learn how to do them from the comfort of your home! We will be working our way through iconic moments in dance history from Bob Fosse to Michael Jackson. Now you can dance along to your favorite broadway moments and more. I am so excited to share some of my favorite dance combos with you and learn them together. It will incorporate technique with different stylistic choices, so make sure you are ready to work! Perfect for middle and high school students.

Costume and Design

Instructor: Lorie Laird

Join our Director of Costumes, Ms. Lorie, and the costuming team in our Costuming and Design camp.  We’ll be working through 5 of our most popular shows (Little Mermaid, Lion King, Willy Wonka, Seussical and Frozen), learning how to plan, design, and create a costume or accessory for one of the characters in the show.  You’ll learn what’s important when designing costumes, how to measure the actor for the best fit, and how to do some basic sewing techniques that all actors should know!  No sewing machine?  No worries – you can hand sew all the projects!

Magic Kingdom Movement

Instructor: Katelin Foley

This camp is tailored for elementary school students, but is fun for any Disney loving member of your family! Dance along to your favorite Disney hits. This is a great opportunity to belt out your favorite songs while you’re learning some fun moves even when you’re not in the “Happiest Place on Earth.” Now when you are watching your favorite movie you can jump up and bust out some awesome moves too.

Magic Kingdom Music

Instructor: Diana Torres-Koss

This camp is tailored for elementary school students, but is fun for any Disney loving member of your family! Miss Diana will teach you tunes and provide you with music from some of your animated favorites!
