Honk! Jr.

HONK! is a retelling of the familiar story "The Ugly Duckling" and was originally developed and first produced in England. The show opened to critical acclaim and since then it has been produced in theaters all over the world. We at Starting Arts are excited to have the chance to produce this fresh telling of a classic tale.

The process of producing a musical with two casts, including guest performances from many other classes, is a colossal undertaking. It has been a six-month road from beginning to end, with thousands of hours of paving the road for a successful experience for the children in the show. The last weeks of this show have been the most challenging, putting all the pieces together, bringing our two casts together, adding our recital cast, working with lights, erecting a set and plugging in the sound, to mention just a few of the hundreds of details involved in producing a musical.

Through it all, the students have maintained the work ethic necessary to get the lob done. It's this part of the process that I feel is the most valuable and life changing, seeing a project through from beginning to end, working together to accomplish a common goal, pushing ourselves to new heights of growth, flying higher than we ever thought we could.
