Move It!

Fall 2003

Move It!

We at Starting Arts welcome you to our Fall recital, Move It!. This production is a culmination of student class work, which began in September. Students in dance, drumming, choir, and visual arts classes have been hard at work creating something special for our public performance tonight. They have been working with professional artists. Each of these artists is a master in their field. The artists take the student's way beyond simply preparing a piece.

Performers learn in detail the depth of commitment and responsibility necessary to become a professional artist, and to put on a production. It's no all fun and games. It's also about work. You could even say that in learning to prepare a perrformance the students are also learning a strong work ethic, a point that is lost on many who feel like the arts are just an extra, a frill, an unnecessary part of educating our children. We now know that structured, consistent instruction in the arts enhances students' ability to make connections to the world around them as well as bolstering students' abilities in traditional academia, i.e. reading, writing, and arthmetic. In a nutshell the time spent in after school arts programs with professional artists helps create a strong foundation from which our students can become well-rounded, self-confident, responsible members of the community. With that said...

Thank you for your commitment to the arts in education.

It's show time folks!
