The Music Man Jr.

The Music Man Jr. marks my fifth show at Ponderosa as director. It's been amazing watching these young students (many with no theatre experience) grow into seasoned performers. Most of the students in The Music Man Jr. have performed in pas Starting Arts productions. Every show we've done has been building to this point, which is the reason the staff and I chose this ambitious project.

The Music Man is the archetypal musical comedy and it was time for Ponderosa theatre class to be exposed to something of this caliber. Another reason for choosing The Music Man was the recently published Broadway Junior Collection. They realized that there were not many traditional musicals that were appropriate for elementary age students so they edited the more mature content and length of these shows to make them more appealing to general audiences. We tried the series out last spring with the Jr. version of School House Rock, which turned out to be an incredible show. After working for these many months with this great cast I'm confident that you will be surprised by their maturity and focus in the telling of this great story by Meredith Willson that we all know as The Music Man.
