Guys and Dolls Jr.
Spring 2009
Guys and Dolls is one of the most popular musicals in American history and it’s practically a right of passage for every budding actor to be in this show at least once. I personally am very pleased to share my first Guys and Dolls production with this amazing group of actors. Set in the seedy streets of New York City in the 1950s, Guys and Dolls is the story of an unlikely love connection between the city’s toughest gangster, Sky Masterson, and the pious Miss Sarah Brown, head of the Save-a-Soul Mission. Meanwhile, the legendary Nathan Detroit is getting into some hot water with his fiancé of fourteen years, Miss Adelaide. With Big Jule in town, Nathan has to come up with a thousand bucks for the crap game and keep it hidden from both Adelaide and the ever present Lieutenant Brannigan. Guys and Dolls is a story about the fight to save the souls of sinners. A story about how to stay in the game when you’re down on your luck. But above all else, it is a story of love surviving against all odds. Thank you to everyone at Starting Arts for all their support and guidance with this production. Thank you, Diana, for sharing your ear and Dottie, for sharing your feet. Thank you parents for sharing your children. And thank you to the cast for all your hard work and dedication to this production. We began working with a crazy group of kids but in the end we’ve turned them into hardened criminals and classy broads. I hope you all enjoy the show!
