FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: STARTING ARTS PRESENTS “THE WIZARD OF OZ” SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 3, 2008 – What are your kids doing this summer? Starting Arts Summer Camps are a great way for kids to experience the arts! The first camp is for students in grades 3-12 (as of May 2008) and will run from June 23-July 19, Monday through Thursday, from 9:00am-2:00pm at Wilcox High School (small gym). Students will be performing “The Wizard of Oz.” Under the direction of Michael Boston, along with choreography by Dottie White and musical direction by Trente Morant, students will have an incredible opportunity to be a part of this popular American musical classic. Starting Arts is also proud to offer “Camp Zoofari” for our community’s younger performers. This Visual and Performing Arts camp will be held at Bowers Elementary for students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade (as of May 2008). Session 1 runs from June 23-July 3, Monday through Friday, from 9:00am-12:00, and Session 2 is from July 7-July 17 from 9:00am-12:00. Students will have fun exploring all four arts disciplines (Dance, Theatre, Music & Visual Arts). Starting Arts is offering, for the first time, a unique and exciting filmmaking experience for students grades 6-12 (as of May 2008). Singularity is an advanced Film Camp which allows students the opportunity to participate in the creation of an original short film on all levels. Singularity will feature the students’ acting talents, as well as give an introduction to filmmaking techniques. The course culminates in a Premiere Gala Event, showcasing the finished film and the students themselves. Singularity will run from July 21- August 8, Monday through Friday from 9:00-2:00pm at Wilcox High School. Previous theatre and/or acting experienced are strongly recommended. Since 2001, we have partnered with local communities, Santa Clara Unified School District, Sunnyvale, Campbell Union School District, Saratoga and San Jose Unified School Districts to provide during and after school programs in all four arts disciplines: dance, theatre, music and visual arts.
