Sara O'Brien

Sara O'Brien's love for the theater began with her first school play at the age of 7: she was Glinda in The Wizard of Oz. She continued to perform onstage throughout her elementary and middle school years. In high school, Sara worked behind the scenes in addition to performing, working stage crew and designing costumes for a variety of shows. She also began to study voice. In 2000, Sara went on to Harvard University, where she majored in English literature. She continued to perform in dramatic productions, including Noises Off and Fiddler on the Roof, and also honed her choreography skills as Production Manager for The Noteables: Harvard's Broadway Beat, a musical theater singing group. Her favorite roles include Agnes in The Shadow Box and Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker.
After graduating, Sara became an English teacher in Boston; she was faculty advisor for the musical theater club and directed Grease after school. She also worked as a producer for several shows before writing, directing, and choreographing musical revues for the students she taught. In August 2008, she made the big move from Boston to California, and she plans to begin work on her master's degree in education in Fall 2009. With her combined passion for theater and education, Sara is thrilled to be part of Starting Arts!
